Where growth stands at 16
Most boys are close to adult height. Late developers can still add a few centimetres.
The average boy at 16 has reached 98% of the average adult man's height in the same charts (5′9½″). A boy who starts puberty late will be below average now and often catches up later; an early developer may be tall now and finish close to average.
Is my child's height normal?
Doctors look less at one measurement than at the pattern: a child who stays near the same percentile year after year is growing normally, whatever that percentile is. Talk to your doctor if your child drops across percentile lines, grows much slower than classmates, or is far below what both parents' heights predict.
Boys vs. girls at 16
The average 16-year-old girl is 162.6 cm (5′4″). See the full chart for girls.
